STV Productions critically acclaimed drama, Elizabeth is Missing, has picked up the award for Best Television Movie at the 41st annual Banff World Media Rockie awards, an event which recognizes excellence in global television and digital content.
More than 125 nominees from 35 countries received nominations with Elizabeth is Missing up against films from Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Japan. The winners were unveiled on Monday 14 June at an online ceremony hosted by stars of CBC in Canada.
Elizabeth is Missing, adapted from Emma Healey’s best-selling novel and broadcast on BBC One last December, stars Glenda Jackson who made her return to TV after a break of 27 years. The film combines a gripping mystery with a tender yet unflinching exploration of one woman’s struggle with dementia and received universal acclaim with the media, audiences and dementia organisations praising its sensitive and authentic portrayal of dementia. The film has also recently received two BAFTA nominations and earlier this year won the London Book Fair Cameo Award for Best Book to Screen, with Glenda Jackson picking up the award for best actress at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, and Andrea Gibb picking up the award for best writer at the RTS Scotland Awards.
